The one and only original New Jersey Zombie Walk is back!!!

ASBURY PARK - The risk of a biological pandemic remains real and is growing as the mysterious virus that was discovered last year becomes entrenched in more counties, health officials warned on Monday.

This yet-to-be explained contaminate has infected homes and businesses in much of Asbury Park as well as many surrounding cities. Experts fear it could mutate into an airborne form that passes easily from person to person, sparking an state-wide outbreak that could kill millions. Even in its current strains, the virus has infected close to 500 people--an astonishingly high number.

Quarantine efforts attempted to contain the virus near the source have all failed and at great cost. Public health officials and lab researchers are now engaged in a frantic battle to contain the escalating outbreak.

"The risk of a pandemic remains and is actually expanding," said Dr. Herbert West, a disease control expert at Jersey's Disease Prevention Center. The timing of a pandemic "remains speculative," he said, but figures have pointed to a likely date of October 3rd, 2009, which is rapidly approaching.

We've infected the entire state and packed in a whole day's worth of zombie mania. Here's everything you need to know...

WHAT? New Jersey Zombie Walk and Zombie Fest
WHERE? The Carousel House in Asbury Park, NJ (700 Ocean Ave.)
WHEN? Saturday, October 3rd.
TIME? Events begin at 11:00am, Walk begins at 5:00pm.
HOW? There's no sign up or registration. Just show up and grab a wristband.
WHO? It's open to everyone, zombies all ages and undead pets (on leashes).
COST? It's entirely free, although there will be cool merch available to purchase.
MAKEUP? On your own, use our free makeup or get a professional makeover ($10).
LATE? Just join the walk where ever it may be lurching in progress.
RAIN? We walk rain or shine. Hail and locusts are a maybe.


SCHEDULE of MAYHEM

Base Camp Opens: Featuring exhibits by local artists, film makers, authors and merchandise, as well as a special Zombie Blood Drive.
11:00AM – Anatomy FX Presentation on zombie makeup effects and prosthetics.
11:30AM – Professional Make-Up Panel demonstration featuring special guest artists
12:30PM – Award-winning zombie fiction author Brian Keene Presentation.
1:00PM – Make-Up Stations and Children's Activity Area open
5:00PM – Zombie Walk throughout Asbury Park
6:30PM – Zombie Fest Main Stage begins with Thriller Dance by Asbury Dance & Yoga
7:00PM – Zombie Beauty Pageant hosted by B Unique Clothing
8:00PM – Jello Brain Eating Contest hosted by Munch
8:30PM – Zombie Karaoke Bash hosted by Paranormal Books & Curiosities
10:00PM – Zombie Walk Official After Party hosted by Asbury Lanes ($10 cover)

ALL zombies need to arrive at Base Camp in the Carousel House to get a wristband. This helps us keep a body count (we want to be the largest on the east coast!) and gets YOU exclusive ********s, freebies and deals all over town. If you miss getting a wristband, you can get one at any time at Paranormal Books & Curiosities on Cookman Avenue. We also have an Official Zombie Guide for you, with a map, schedule and a list of exclusive zombie-only deals. Ample parking can be found directly in front of the Carousel House, and the Asbury Park NJ Transit Train Station is within walking distance (on Main Street).

Throughout the day, we'll have a special quarantine area devoted to local artists, film makers, authors and special guests. They'll be exhibiting their work, recruiting for projects, selling their merchandise, signing books and handing out cool free stuff. Beginning at 11:00AM, we'll host a variety of presentations by special effects masters, who will demonstrate the tricks of the trade and how to achieve movie-quality make-up. You won't want to miss out on this!

As a way to give back to the community (and apologize for all the mass slaughtering), The New Jersey Zombie Walk has partnered with blood banks to host a Zombie Blood Drive. Even though you may be deader than a door nail, you can give life to those in need. Lend a helping (undead) hand and donate for a great cause.
