Our annual Zombie Weekend will be held at Monroeville Mall on Saturday, October 25 & Sunday, October 26. Events for the weekend include:
- A Zombie Masquerade Ball which will kick off the festivities on Friday evening (10/24). The Ball, sponsored in part by Straub Beer, will be held at the Churchill Valley Country Club, featuring live entertainment, contests and a silent auction to benefit breast cancer research. This is a 21 and over event with a $20 admission fee for advanced tickets; $22 at the door.
- The second annual It’s Alive 2008 Zombie Fest takes place on October 25 & 26. We’ve changed up the fest a little this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dawn of the Dead at the site where it was filmed – Monroeville Mall. Zombie Fest is going to be a free show open to the public, which will offer greater exposure to a wider horror and zombie fan base. Zombie Fest will feature zombie and horror-themed exhibitors offering hard to find and collectible wares, an author panel program featuring award-winning writers, films, bands, celebrity guests and games and activities for all ages. Heading our celebrity guest list for the weekend is Ken Foree, one of the stars of Dawn of the Dead.
- On Sunday morning, we will have our third annual Zombie Walk to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The event is free and open to all ages; zombies are asked to bring a nonperishable food donation. But this year our walk will be the hub of World Zombie Day during which cities worldwide will hold walks and food drives to raise awareness of the growing problem of world hunger. To date, we have close to 50 cities signed up to participate throughout the US, Canada, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
